The Best History of Dal Lake Srinagar
Dal Lake is formed by melting snow and rainwater from the surrounding mountains. It is actually a complex of four lakes in the Kashmir Valley: Gagribal, Lokut Dal, Bod Dal, and Nigeen Lake. The Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh gardens near Dal Lake in Srinagar were built by the Mughal emperor Jahangir. Dal Lake spans 18 square kilometers and is 20 feet deep. When the Mughals conquered India in 1529 CE, they gained control of the entire region. The Mughals used Kashmir for gardens, resorts, and other luxuries. After the death of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in 1707, the Mughal Empire began to disintegrate, leading to an increase in the presence of Pashtun tribes in the Kashmir Valley.

The shikaras are decorated from above, and in winter, tea and non-vegetarian food are supplied throughout Dal Lake using these shikaras.

In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. During the summer, all the Mughal emperors used to visit this lake. The British also spent a considerable amount of time here. The Indian government has invested 275 million US dollars for the beautification of Dal Lake Srinagar. In 2002, the Jammu and Kashmir government spent ₹850 crore on the conservation of Dal Lake. In 2005, ₹350 crore was spent on Dal Lake under the National Lake Conservation Programme. Since 2010, ₹350 crore was spent under the Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme. Families displaced from Dal Lake were rehabilitated. According to a report by the Kashmir Pollution Control Board, Dal Lake has become 80 percent polluted due to the dumping of garbage and sewage. The main causes of the lake’s pollution are unplanned settlements and high population density. Houseboats also pollute the lake to a great extent. The Indian government and the Kashmir government should take concrete steps to protect it.

But I recommend that you look for a room near the lake itself. Local people rent out their houses to tourists to supplement their income. Look for a good room near the lake. You can also rent a houseboat on Dal Lake. The daily rent is 3000 rupees, which includes meals. During the winter season, make sure to get a well-heated room, as staying in an unheated room can be harmful to your health. When I went to Dal Lake, I rented a room near the lake for 400 rupees per day.
How to reach Dal Lake, Srinagar
You can reach Kashmir by bus, train, or plane. The Indian government has launched numerous development schemes for Kashmir to connect this state with other states. Many trains run from Delhi, the capital of India, to Jammu. There are also flight connections from all major cities. You can also travel here by your own private vehicle. You can come on your motorcycle. The Indian government has built very good roads by cutting through the mountains. Today, our Kashmir is changing.
